Save the Children is a seeking qualified candidate to fulfill the following vacancy in its Ramallah Office with frequent travel to the field sites:
Communications Officer - Position Ref.#: (ComOff/WB/2015)
The post holder will conduct various communications duties to help in developing high-quality communications materials based on information gathered from a wide range of sources, including primary data and personal interviews with children and families, to support our communications needs, documentation, reporting, program development, emergencies and advocacy requirements.
S/he will also support a range of other functions, including communications and visibility planning, advocacy training, translation, design of communications tools and other capacity building support to partners, branding, and sub-grant management support.
She reports to the PDQ Senior Manager.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop high-quality communications materials in English to reflect the situation of children in the oPt, for use in programme activities, fundraising and advocacy.
Develop and follow the implementation of communications and visibility plans for all projects in the West Bank, taking the lead where designated.
Prepare request of quotations and tenders for communication material according to the procedures set in the Management Guide, under the supervision of the PDQ Senior Manager.
Ensure the quality of all communication material and awareness raising material produced and distributed by SCI for the projects; audio-visual and print.
Gather and analyse information from a wide range of sources (UN, NGOs, media, internet, personal contacts, etc.) on the humanitarian situation in the West Bank.
Provide written, verbal and photographic updates on the situation, as needed, to support media and advocacy work.
Support ad-hoc information requests from Save the Children staff members, or SC members, as requested.
Support ongoing assessments and monitoring of the situation.
Set up and implement a production and distribution plan of all awareness raising material that will be produced within the project activities.
Responsible for drafting press releases, factsheets and position papers.
Develop and produce Child Rights Fact Sheets, 2 x Year.
Research and produce Briefing Papers on particular subjects.
Support development of communications materials around special reports or project reports
Facilitate oPt website development and content, if requested.
Support development and implementation of a Communications Strategy.
Review and catalogue from identified data sources key child rights indicators, identify data gaps and follow-up as necessary
Identify issues from research for further investigation
Identify themes/trends from research and monitoring work
Research specific themes as requested
Write short stories and case studies (using quotes from children – giving voice to children)
Conduct regular interviews and/or focus groups with children and families reached by the SCI and other interventions
Write short stories, case studies and photo stories on the ways in which the emergency is affecting children’s lives (using quotes from children – giving voice to children)
Write short stories and/or case studies on other topics, in line with documentation, comms, and advocacy strategies.
Support the writing of regular Sitreps summarizing the situation, as necessary
Conduct or support needs and other types of assessments, as necessary.
Support project development/fundraising as requested, in particular through conducting research, collecting data, and supporting programme design with partners and programme development team.Support the CO program development efforts, in terms of concept/proposal writing upon requests from PDQ Senior Manager in liaison with Director of PDQ.
Leads the SitRep development in times of declared Humanitarian/Emergency Responses.
Provide support as requested by PDQ Senior Manager to other staff in times of emergencies.
Review and approve all project and office visibility materials destined for an external audience, both for programme and administrative purposes, to ensure compliance with Save the Children and donor branding requirements.
Supporting all West Bank projects in their visibility and branding needs.
Provide support to Save the Children staff in building their capacity in the field of Communications, Documentation and visibility.
Support Save the Children partners by providing all new partners with a package of “Partner Training Module” that includes:
-Communications and visibility plan for their project.
-Skills of interviewing children.
-SCI Child Safe Guarding Policy.
-Translation, when needed, of documents from Arabic to English and vice-versa.
Ready to work to respond to any natural disaster or emergency situation anywhere in oPt.
In the event of an emergency support the implementation of Save the Children emergency response activities as needed.
Support the SCI to prepare emergency concept notes and proposals including budgets for SCI emergency programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
University degree in Social Sciences, Journalism & Media, Literature or any related field.
At least 4 years of similar experience in a recognized local or international NGO.
English mother-tongue with excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines.
Ability to contribute to a small, proactive team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary.
Ability to conduct interviews with children and families and to record primary statements.
Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment.
Understanding of Save the Children’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objectives.
Arabic knowledge is an advantage
Previous Experience in communications and design is an advantage.
