The UNDP/UN Women Joint Programme is oriented around the following seven mutually reinforcing outcomes:

3-Civil society contribution to rule of law and community access to justice in the Gaza Strip enhanced

This position will focus on the implementation of Outcome 3 of the Programme. For the past four years, UNDP/PAPP has developed a thriving programme in Gaza focused on community access to justice. The programme initiated the establishment of the Awn Network, a network of civil society legal aid providers anchored by the Palestinian Bar Association, providing targeted legal aid assistance, advocacy on justice issues and community legal awareness raising to vulnerable groups, targeted especially women and children. The programme also works with informal justice leaders to strengthen the rights protection available to women, children and other marginalised groups, who use informal justice mechanisms.

UNDP/PAPP is also undertaking preparatory work assessing the options and possibilities for harmonisation of laws between the West Bank and Gaza Strip at the request of various stakeholders. In addition, the recent conflict in Gaza, has generated additional needs for the provision of emergency legal aid services and support for the provision of protection to vulnerable groups, especially female or child-headed households.
