HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Our work in over 75 countries is strengthened through our global network of like-minded organisations - the only one of its kind in the world.
HelpAge International started working in the Gaza Strip in February 2009, It is providing a developmental capacity building of non-state actors in addition to a humanitarian response for older people including provision of food, psychosocial support, livelihoods support and physical rehabilitation.
HelpAge International will continue its care for older people through providing support to the Older People in Gaza through operating of a free-toll telephone line/ calls and refers needed assistant cases to relevant service providers as needed; HelpAge seeks for one experienced committed professional for a full time post of “Helpline Support Officer”
Main responsibilities of the position:
1-To provide emotional support via the telephone, email instant messaging, and face-to-face to individuals using the person centered approach, maintaining professional boundaries at all times by adhering to HelpAge policies procedures and guidelines
2-To assess the information needs of callers and provide appropriate, evidence based information and provide appropriate signposting and/or referral to professionals, agencies, organizations or other services providers
3-To ensure that the Helpline develops and maintains accurate, up to date, evidence-based information on multiple sclerosis and allied conditions and records activities on the HelpAge System
4-To develop and manage a database of received calls and complaints
5-To analyses and present a summary of received data
Qualifications:
1-Desirable: Relevant Post Graduate qualification (e.g. counseling or health based diplomas/degrees)
Skills:
1-Effective communication skills: able to speak sensitively to a wide range of individuals (who may be in distress)
2-Experience of providing emotional support via the telephone or in person
3-Experience of data analysis and database management
4-Remaining calm and self-confident in challenging situations; able to manage emotions when dealing with people in distress
5-Possess excellent writing skills for correspondence, reports and/or briefs.
6-Good level of spoken and written English
