The Office of the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology Services seeks to recruit a qualified and professional Systems Administrator according to the following specifications:
Job Title:Systems Administrator
Department/ Section:Technology Infrastructure and Support Unit
Immediate Supervisor:Assistant Vice President for Information Technology Services
Job Objective/ Summary:
This position plays an important role in maintaining and improving IT services offered to Bethlehem University community. The System Administrator will maintain smooth operational and secure servers, networks and various services at the University including its main firewall system, routers, LINUX based servers, and shared resources such as email, web servers, DHCP, and DNS.
This position will also be in charge of managing and supervising the entire operation of the Technology Infrastructure and Support Unit including staffing, budgeting, and services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Main routine duties:
1-Setup, maintain, and administer all University LINUX servers and Internet related services such as web servers, e-mail servers, DNS server, proxy servers, DHCP server, and other shared services.
2-Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
3-Install, configure, and document new servers and services as needed.
4-Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
5-Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
6-Design, setup and administer the University firewall system and routers.
7-Monitor servers and networks to ensure security and availability
8-Evaluate, install, and upgrade server hardware, networking software, operating system software and software application.
9-Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of the campus and administrative LAN
10-Contribute to and maintain system standards
11-Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
12-Develop, document, and maintain a disaster recovery plan
13-Supervise other staff members of the Technology Infrastructure and Support Unit
14-Follow up on equipment procurement, budgeting, and staffing of the Unit.
15-The supervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs and foster the mission of the University
In the absence of other staff member:
1-Campus wide wifi network deployment, maintenance and support
2-Create, and maintain network accounts for all staff, faculty, administration, students and ICP
3-Setup and administer Windows based servers especially the ones hosting the new integrated system.
Periodic duties:
1-Write specifications for computer related equipment, and confirm received equipment according to the requested specifications
2-Develop and monitor the annual budget for the unit
3-Assist in developing, documenting, and enforcing IT policies and procedures
Responsibilities: (Such as membership on committees or councils).
1-Member of IT bids committee
2-Member of the IT Strategic Planning Committee
Special Working Conditions: (Such as frequent traveling or working outdoors).
Emergency Need: (Such as working beyond normal schedule).
1-On emergency basis especially during issues related to Internet connectivity, LAN, and servers.
Qualifications
1-Bachelor degree in Computer Science or other related field with related practical experience.
2-A minimum of three years of system administration practical experience
3-Good knowledge in administrating and configuring LINUX servers including all Internet related services such as mail servers, DNS servers, proxy servers, DHCP servers, connectivity, database and other services.
4-Good knowledge in firewall systems
5-Good Knowledge of Internet/Intranet technologies and hardware
6-Knowledge in administrating and configuring Windows servers including domains and active directory.
7-Knowledge in network administration
8-Previous management and staff supervision experience
9-Good oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English
10-Able to communicate and work within a team, and able to train others on using software applications.
11-Ability to develop, learn and adapt to new technologies on his/her own
Starting date of employment: as soon as possible
