The Rural Women’s Development Society (RWDS) is a Palestinian women’s organization that registered in 2001,
and working in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip whose mission is to organize, support and strengthen rural women’s clubs that are committed to the principles of social justice, equality and civil society, and work in accordance with the RWDS vision of improving women’s economic, social and political status.
RWDS achieves this mission and advances the rights of rural women by creating an empowering and supportive environment for them in their local communities, highlighting their important contributions to Palestinian society and designing innovative projects under the programmatic areas of Economic, Political and Social Empowerment. Our action-oriented approach emphasizes education, community participation, skill-building, and advocacy to develop rural women into strong, committed leaders.
Position
Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED) and the Director of Programs/Projects, the Public Relations Officer will lead development, fundraising and communications efforts to market, sustain, grow and share the work of RWDS. This position manages 1-2 employees or interns that assist with communications and fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities
Fundraising:
-Develop and execute RWDS annual fundraising plan that are in line with organization’s strategic plan and advance its mission, including assisting with program and project development
-Secure financial support from local, regional and international governments, donor agencies, foundations and/or corporations/businesses
-Design projects that further the mission and vision of the organization and are in line with developed strategies
-Develop, write, submit and track proposals, concept notes, and application information, including log frames, action plans and budgets
-Assist with narrative reports and Monitoring and Evaluation procedures for donors, working with Director of Programs/Projects and field staff as necessary
-Work with accountant to manage grant money and financial reporting
-Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with existing donors and new partners
Communications:
-Collaborate with senior leadership to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact and increase local, regional and international awareness about RWDS’ work
-Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the annual communications plan, including for social media
-Develop and refine RWDS’ "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency
-Manage development, creation, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic materials including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, and RWDS’ website
-Support efforts to present and advocate for RWDS work in the media and amongst the public, government agencies, etc.
-Liaise with the media and diverse stakeholders when other senior staff members are unavailable.
Other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
-B.A degree required in related field (Development Studies, Planning, Gender/Women Studies, Nonprofit Administration, etc), Master’s Degree preferred
-Fluency in English (required) and Arabic (preferred), both written and verbal
-At least three years of professional experience (in NGOs, CSOs or donor institutions), knowledge and proven practice in project development, fundraising and/or communications
-Knowledge of Logical Framework Approach (LFA), writing for NGOs (proposals, publicity materials, etc), monitoring and evaluation, results-based planning and implementation
-Firm understanding of planning and budgeting processes in project design
-Awareness of /Interest in human rights, development, social and gender issues
-Excellent communication and writing skills; ability to present information in a clear and concise manner, effective liaison, networking and relationship-building skills
-Computer skills: sound knowledge of standard software (Ms Office and others)
-Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
-Ability to set priorities, work under pressure and handle stress, to plan and work systematically towards deadlines, maintain positive attitude and take decisions.
