OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objectives of WHO's emergency humanitarian action (EHA) programme:
-promptly assessing health needs of populations affected by crisis, identifying priority causes of ill-health and death; preparing damage estimates and emergency response and rehabilitation plans; providing prompt, credible health information and ensuring the continuity of essential health services;
-coordinating and monitoring emergency health relief efforts under the aegis of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Health Cluster, of which WHO is the lead agency;
-ensuring that critical gaps in the health response are rapidly identified and filled;
-revitalizing and building the capacity of national health systems to deal with preparedness, mitigation and response.
Purpose of the Post:
To maintain and strengthen the coordination and information management in the health sector.
Description of duties:
Organizational Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the sub-Office in Gaza and the overall guidance of Palestine (PSE) Head of Office and the technical guidance of the Coordinator, Emergency and Humanitarian Action (EHA), the incumbent will act as coordinator and manager to sustain an effective and reliable health sector coordination system related to Primary Health Care (PHC) as well as secondary and tertiary care levels by monitoring the health status and the health system services in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt.) . S/He will facilitate rapid and coordinated response and prepare technical reports.
Summary of Assigned Duties:
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
-Develop and organize the Health Sector Emergency Coordination activities such as Health Coordination Meetings, Initial Rapid Assessments (IRA) and emergency response.
-Collect and analyze data relevant to the ongoing public health crisis in the area, providing high quality information (health in disaster/emergency settings) to inform relevant stakeholders and produce monthly monitoring and situation reports and documents .
-Develop and review project proposals and reports to donors on emergency response.
-Represent WHO in the Health Sector Coordination meetings conducted in Gaza and chair the meetings in the absence of Head of Sub-office and at times of need, and provide feedback.
-Produce and disseminate materials related to key public health issues and humanitarian needs in the ongoing emergency situation.
-Collect and compile data on activities of various WHO programmes within Gaza Office and raise them to WHO Head Office on a weekly basis.
-Ensure consistency of the data compiled in WHO Country Office through quality control and source verification.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: University degree in any health related field.
Desirable: Postgraduate degree in public health or other health disciplines.

Other Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office.

Experience:
Essential: At least 2 years of relevant experience in public health preferably related to humanitarian assistance in crisis.
Desirable: Experience in developing and implementing information management strategies aimed at reaching multiple stakeholders.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and local language.
