From Grove to Market –Making the olive market work for subsistence and small-scale farmers in the occupied Palestinian territories

Within the framework of the project entitled “From the Grove to the Market” which is sponsored by the European Commission, EC, and implemented by Bethlehem University’s Fair Trade Development Center (FTDC) of the Institute for Community Partnership, Applied Research Institute Jerusalem (ARIJ), The Economic and
Social Development Center of Palestine (ESDC), Business Women Forum (BWF) and Oxfam GB that aims at enabling small and medium scale farmers from vulnerable and poor households in the West Bank to have fair and equitable access to commercial markets within a conducive institutional and policy environment, resulting in increased food and income security and greater resilience to, and ability to respond to, shocks and disasters.

The project targets Palestinian seeks to work with olive oil representative bodies mainly the Palestinian Olive Oil Council, Olive Oil Cooperatives Union and the Palestinian Farmers’ Union to formulate their marketing, gender, policy strategies to better serve the interests of the disadvantaged small scale olive farmers. Through coaching and mentoring the project seeks to assist the olive farmers’ representative bodies to develop effective and efficient systems, and to develop the good governance, best practices in management and finance, with a focus on active participation of members and communities in the decision making processes. Furthermore, to adopt impact-oriented, gender sensitive approach in their practices.

The project is seeking to hire the services of a “Mentor ” to be stationed at the offices of “Grove to Market” program in Ramallah.

Tasks and duties:
The mentor shall work with the farmers’ representative bodies on the following:
• Contribute to developing and enhancing the democratic practices within olive farmers’ representative bodies;
• Assist in enhancing the value of gender equity and help organizations develop the mechanisms that ensure women active participation in the organizations;
• Assist farmers representative bodies in adopting the principles of democracy and develop mechanisms and tools to enhance transparency, participation, proper reporting and dual way communications at the members and communities levels;
• Assist farmers representative bodies to develop mechanisms and tools of proper communication with members and communities alike; special attention should be dedicated to organizations’ websites and social media;
• Assist farmers’ representative bodies to develop their communication strategy; and develop statements in line with organizations vision, mission and role.
• Assist farmers representative bodies to enhance the organizational culture and institutionalize systems within the structure of the organizations;
• Assist farmers representative bodies develop their advocacy and policy strategy as well as enhance their skills to organize advocacy and lobbying campaigns

Minimum Requirements:
• BA in Business Administration; Master Degree is an asset
• Minimum experience of three years in organizational development
• Very good communication skills
• Flexible time
• Valid driving license and ability to travel
