Overview
The objective of the Land Administration Project II (LAP II) is to support improvements in the design and implementation of the land registration system. LAP II will contribute to institutional strengthening of the Palestinian Land Authority (PLA) as well as the modernization of the PLA offices through the improvements to the Computerized Land Registration System used in Ramallah. The project is funded jointly by the World Bank and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland.
The main language in the LAPII project documentation is English, while the working language in PLA is Arabic. To ensure best possible communication between the project and PLA staff, it is necessary to translate documents to/from Arabic. The job requires a high level of professional competency. The selected candidate will be supported in specific terminology by the current translators in the project, but excellent command of written English and Arabic is necessary to complete the tasks effectively.
The project is first of all looking for a candidate to fill in urgent needs for a 2 weeks full time assignment starting in Mid-November. It will be preferred to receive applications from candidates who could also, later in the future, conduct some translation work when needed.
The place of working will be in the PLA office in AlBireh during the official working hours (8am to 3pm). Maximum of 50% of the work can be done outside the office.
Responsibilities and deliverables
The ideal candidate will:
-Translate correspondence, reports and other materials from English into Arabic and vice versa as requested by the Technical Assistance team advisors;
-Deliver translated documents in good professional language and clear format as requested and on time
Personal and professional competency
-A university degree in English language, translation or a related field;
-At least two years of experience in translation work in Arabic/English and vice versa;
-Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and English;
-Good communicator in both spoken and written English, including ability to draft/edit a variety of written reports and other studies;
-It is desirable to have knowledge of land registration terminology
-Ability to work independently on translation tasks with little supervision;
-Good social skills in general
Conditions of Service
Contract Duration: appr. 10 working days, which can be renewed based when needed. Payment of services will be based on translation quantity i.e. it will be word based.
