The British Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking an individual for the position of Communications Assistant starting in November 2013.
Purpose of the job
This exciting position requires you to implement all aspects of BCG’s digital communications activities. You will also assist the Communications Manager in carrying out our public diplomacy campaigns.
Duties and responsibilities
Ensure that all the Consulate activities (service delivery; policy; projects; visits; events; commercial) are fully disseminated through the Consulate’s digital platforms (BCG website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr)
Keep the English and Arabic website pages of the Consulate up to date.
Assist in carrying out digital campaigns to achieve the Consulate and wider FCO objectives.
Take photographs and record videos of events for use on the website/ social media.
Contribute to the successful delivery of consulate-wide public diplomacy campaigns as outlined in the Consulate’s communications strategy.
Promote and maintain BCG’s Facebook page with fresh, lively and interactive content on a daily basis.
Report to the Political and Engagement team on visitor statistics, feedback and participation for evaluation purposes and act on this feedback.
Translate web stories from English to Arabic (or vice versa) and ensure that content is featured equally on English and Arabic webpages.
Essential skills
Excellent editorial skills with a sound understanding of writing for the web and engaging with a wide variety of audiences particularly online.
Excellent web publishing skills and good knowledge of content management systems.
Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, digital trends, and the Palestinian internet landscape.
Good photography skills.
Good knowledge in design and image-editing software.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities
Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic, with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences.
A strong track record of delivering results.
A ‘can-do’ attitude, with an ability to find creative solutions to problems. At times, to undertake tasks which need doing regardless of formal job description.
