Announcement for Communication Consultant- Mercy Corps seeks a qualified Communication Consultant to perform and participate in activities relating to startup business in the Gaza Strip.
The duration of the assignment is 6 months as service contract and it is a full time consultancy (8 hours daily)

Background:
Mercy Corps is a nonprofit international relief and development organization serving more than 19 million people in 36 countries. Mercy Corps has had a presence in the West Bank and Gaza since the 1980s, helping Palestinians meet their immediate needs for survival and find durable solutions to chronic problems. With offices in East Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gaza City, Mercy Corps implements programs throughout the Palestinian territories.
Mercy Corps is implementing ICT ecosystem development programs in Gaza since 2009 with funding from a range of donors. Mercy Corps is currently implementing the Arab Development Network Initiative (ADNI) with funding from Google, Inc. The primary goal of (ADNI) is to support IT entrepreneurs to identify and launch scalable startup ideas. To support Gaza IT entrepreneurs ADNI has created Gaza Sky Geeks, the first IT startup accelerator in Gaza. Gaza Sky Geeks will support the most promising startup ideas and entrepreneurs by providing seed investment, mentor support and link to follow on investment. Gaza Sky Geeks will be based on a for-profit acceleration model.
Objective of the assignment:
The Communication Consultant is going to manage GSG website, social media networks, press releases and work closely with startups on web/mobile application design and user experience (UX).
Scope of Work:
The Communication Consultant will be employed by Mercy Corps, and will work closely with Mercy Corps’ communication department.
-Media coverage (video and photo shooting) for GSG events and meetups
-Update GSG website and manage Facebook, Twitter and social networks websites.
-Support business development consultant in working closely with startups pitch development
-Develop interviews scripts and produce videos that include interviews with entrepreneurs and success stories
-Attract startups and entrepreneurs to participate in GSG accelerator through pitching GSG to universities, training centers, develop designs and
-Upload videos and photos to social networks and GSG website during events
-Develop designs and logos for GSG activities and events
-Work with startups on user experience (UX) for their web/mobile applications design
-Continuous backup to program documents, videos and photos
-Provide overall support to Gaza eco-system meetings
-Support in selecting entrepreneurs for events and meetups
-Contribute to developing media and communication work plans and support ongoing activities
-Works cooperatively with Mercy Corps staff, local community, partner NGOs, and other parties.
-Generating verbal and written translations of pertinent project documentation as needed/required.
-Attend weekly meeting organized with entrepreneurs
-Coordinate information sharing between entrepreneurs and GSG crucial to success of the accelerator
-Supervise startups major events and international activities, i.e. meetups, startup weekend, bootcamp and acceleration program
-Provide assistance and moderate online discussions participated by multiple teams over GSG blog
-Monitor computer lab and ensure that all activities conducted there are done in accordance with Mercy Corps rules and regulation and utilized accordingly and appropriately.
-Participates in relevant (external and internal) project evaluations and/or needs assessments.
-Leads in planning baseline as well as end line data collection in line with the established evaluation strategy.
-Regularly reports on project implementation/ progress
-Liaises and coordinates with other Mercy Corps departments as needed.
-Performance of work beyond normal office hours as required, without additional compensation.
-Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
-Ensure that accurate and up-to date programmatic documentation is maintained.
-Ensure that relevant evaluation strategies are implemented in a timely and high quality manner, and that all outcomes of activities are met.
-Issue regular reports on project implementation/ progress to the Program Manager, and prepare draft reports and other project documentation.
-Other tasks as appointed by program manager.
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Program Manager
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Program Manager, Program Development Consultant, Program Support Officer and Program Director
Deliverables:
The outputs of Communication Consultant will be:
-Designs and videos for GSG events, website and social media network
-Marketing GSG in radio stations, social media, TV and news paper
-Photo and video documentation for GSG meetups and events
-Designs for startups products are validated
-Updated GSG website and social media networks
Qualification and Experience of the required consultant:
-University degree in media, communications or relevant field preferred
-At least two years’ experience working with startups, preferably Gaza startups and his/her own startup
-Previous experience in photo shooting and video production in addition to website moderation and design.
-Proven skills in strategic planning, media relations and content development.
-Excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills and ability to multi-task and support and/or fill multiple positions at one time.
-Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively with team members.
-Understanding of the social, political, and economic context of Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip.
-Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic.
-Proficiency in MS Office.

General Conditions and Payment terms
-Communication Consultant will be paid based on monthly rate
-The Contractor is not entitled to leave days or vacation time. The consultant is entitled only for Mercy Corps official holidays.
-The consultant is not a Mercy Corps employee and will not as such be entitled to any benefits or compensations outside of the rate specified above
